The National Day of Prayer is observed in the United States on the first Thursday of May. Federal law asks the President to proclaim the day each year, as a time when people may turn to prayer and meditation at places of worship, in groups or on their own. Many Americans of different faith traditions mark it, and it's also a quiet moment to let someone know they're in your thoughts.
